“He is here” said an excited little voice at the entrance to Oxfam. Yes, there he sat, Father Christmas himself, ready and waiting to learn what children were hoping for this Christmas. As the days tick away to the 25th, he has been making a number of appearances, magically in several locations at once – but then he is a clever fella! Emily Stuart had come with her Gran, and while she had a chat with the jolly chap in the red top and trousers, Gran and a friend were invited to enjoy a mince pie and a glass of sherry, as Oxfam’s thanks to all those who have supported their work this year. Manager Joe Thackwray was happy that the target for their farmer support project had been more than achieved. Next it was the turn of Sowerby and Thirsk Cubs and Beavers, who in a cunning bit of role reversal, instead of getting presents, had something special to give him. They had been taking part in their international partnership award, and between them had raised £194 at a cake stall. They chose Oxfam as the agency through which their money would be turned into humanitarian aid.
